Idaho Balsam Fir is grounding, stimulating to the mind and relaxing to the body. The simple inhalation of Balsam Fir is shown to reduce cortisol levels by 40%.

Idaho Balsam Fir has also has been helpful for many to relieve pain in overworked or tired muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. Many people find that it helps with back pain.

Also used for burns, cuts, aches and pains, arthritis discomfort and respiratory conditions (asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, chronic coughs, sore throat, colds, flu.

Young Living distills Idaho Balsam Fir in January when the weather is bitter cold. The reason is that the trees have a higher oil content during the coldest weather. The oil acts as an antifreeze to protect the tree from the cold and to prevent the needles from falling off the tree.

This is a testimonial to Young Living, that they could be more comfortable doing that work in the warmer days of summer, but chose instead to put their own comfort and safety aside, to get the most benefits from the oil.

Gary Young truly is an expert in his field and the reason why we can be assured that we are getting the best quality oils on the planet! A lot of essential oil companies don’t even know their suppliers or the chemical properties of their oils.

When Gary started producing Balsam Fir he noticed that the crew working on the mountain would get grouchy and used bad language. The crew running the chipper and distilling the oil had an entirely different mood. Since they were inhaling the oil, they had a happy pleasant attitude.

Observing the different attitudes between the 2 crews, Gary decided to switch the crews so the crew working at the top of the mountain would work with distilling for a while. Then he noticed that same thing again. The ones distilling were calm and happy.

What we can learn from this is that Idaho Balsam Fir oil is great for the emotional state.

From The Essential Oils Desk Reference, 4th Edition:

Botanical Family: Pinaceae (pine)

Plant Origin: Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho

Extraction Method: Steam distilled from Leaves (needles) and branches

Key Constituents:

~ Alpha-Pinene (28-49%)

~ Beta Pinene (14-24%)

~ Camphene (13-20%

~ Limonene (13-20%)

ORAC: 20,500 u TE/100g

Historical Data:

The fir tree – a tree commonly used as a christmas tree today – has been prized through the ages for its medicinal effects and ability to heal respiratory conditions and muscular and rheumatic pain.

Medical Properties: Anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory

Uses:

Throat/lung/ sinus infections, fatigue, arthritis/rheumatisms, urinary tract infections, scoliosis/lumbago/ sciatica. Great for the nervous system, Digestive/elmination system, and Glandular/hormonal system.

Fragrant Influence: grounding, stimulating to the mind and relaxing to the body

Application:

Dilute 1 part EO with 1 part VO; (1) apply 2-4 drops on location or use neat in Raindrop Technique; (2) chakras/Vita flex points; (3) directly inhale; (4) diffuse or (5) take as dietary supplement.

To learn more about the harvest and see Gary Young and his team in action, go online to watch a short video and listen to two audio files.

Experiences with Idaho Balsam Fir & Deep Relief…

Just want to share a fun discovery from doing a Raindrop Treatment today, using Idaho Balsam Fir.

This is with a client who comes in weekly and has chronic back problems, (post lumbar disc surgery and matching scar).

I applied Valor to begin with, as usual. Then I tried something new. I applied V-6 oil to create a lubricated base, then about 8 drops Idaho Balsam Fir across spine, feathered in, then lightly massaged for better distribution. I then applied the rest of the Raindrop Oils, as usual.

By the end of the Raindrop Treatment, when it was time to massage her back, my client’s muscles where incredibly relaxed…We’ve been doing Raindrop Treatments weekly for almost a year, experimenting with different techniques. This was the most awesome one yet!

Also, I think the surgery scar has diminished about 40- 50%. WOW. I used to do cross-fiber massage to help soften it, but haven’t done anything for several months. The only thing we’ve been doing different is using Balsam Fir as one of the Raindrop oils several weeks in a row.

Could the scar be shrinking from use of the Fir? Worth a try for someone needing that relief.

I really love Idaho Balsam Fir. Maybe we could have a contest of most incredible Fir Stories–the winner gets a case–I’m always out of it!

Have a Sunny Day! – Sondra

*** *** ***

I had rotator cuff problems in my left shoulder for about 2 years with the pain continually getting worse to the point that I could not raise my arm over my head or bend it behind my back.

I started using Panaway, Lavender, and Balsam Idaho Fir essential oils and within several weeks the pain subsided and the range of motion increased. I now have no more pain at all after several months of using the essential oils. I do continue to use the oils on my arm occasionally. — Denise

*** *** ***

I tend to carry all my stress in my neck and shoulders and once in a great while my neck will get so stiff it is difficult to turn. I have found the best relief is layering Balsam Fir, Aroma Siez, Ortho Sport and Peppermint on my neck and shoulders before going to bed. The next day I feel great. — Cindy

*** *** ***

I use Idaho Balsam Fir in my massages when I run into a back muscle that will not yield to anything. Two drops and the muscle melts. If you are hurting, this would be the first oil I would grab, you may not need another. — Janet

*** *** ***

I have been using the new roll-ons from Young Living Convention and love them. I worked out for the first time in 6 months at the gym and had a stiff neck. Then I went grocery shopping, took out my Deep Relief, and put it on my neck in the store. I went on to finish shopping withmuch relief! — Linda

*** *** ***

I just got all three roll-ons and the deep relief is AMAZING! I kid you not I watched the muscles in my feet relax, I could see them jumping, looked like when a baby kicks a mom’s stomach, I have never seen such a thing and the smell is much more pleasant to me than the PanAway.

I got a bit too much on my neck though hoooheee is it a bit warm, smells great though and I have so much more energy since using my oils everyday!

– Donna

Here are a few recipes created by Mardi Drewski, the first when we were unable to order the Thieves Hand Soap. The second recipe for my Dad, who likes Eucalyptus and it made a great Christmas Gift for him. Besides, when you look at the properties of Eucalyptus and Rosemary, there’s a whole deeper level of appreciation for this gift besides the scent.

HOMEMADE Anti-Microbial Foaming Soap

10 dr. Lemon

30 dr. Thieves

10 dr. Orange

HOMEMADE Eucalyptus Rosemary Foaming Soap

20 dr. Eucalyptus

5 dr. Rosemary

Abundance would be a wonderful blend to make foaming soap

Gratitude, Believe, Joy, Evergreen Essence…

Also,

Lavender / Peppermint

Lavender / Geranium

Melaleuca / Geranium

Lemon / Sandalwood

Lemon / Lavender

Lemon / Peppermint

Lemon / Rosemary

Lemon / Spruce

Juniper / Peppermint

Lavender / Ylang Ylang

Check out the Desk Reference, follow your heart’s intuition and your nose… have fun! Develop your own signature scent to use at your place of business, spa… etc.

* Therapeutic grade essential oils from Young Living are suitable and appropriate for the above applications. They may be used topically, diffused or inhaled and are approved by the FDA as “GRAS” and for use as a dietary supplement. These oils contain beneficial chemistry against bacteria and undesirable strains.

EO’s from bath shops and natural foods stores are often perfume grade, thus may not yield therapeutic results and should never be taken internally. Perfume grade oils have been rendered toxic by the distillation method, fillers, chemical extractants, etc. and may cause adverse reactions.

Courtney and Megan love the oils and my sister-in-law LOVES that she no longer has to fight with her girls to take medicine! She uses the oils on them without hesitation, just in a smaller dose.

Francesca just started to let me put the oils on her this past Christmas. She was sick for Christmas and I told her she will be feeling better right away. I put Peppermint oil (1 drop) on her chest and then a little V6 on top.

Also, 1 drop in my palm and I press my palms together so 1/2 a drop in each and on the bottom of her feet. She was up and running around in 1/2 an hour.

Now my sister in trying to implement the oils with her kids on a regular basis!

The oils are perfect for children because NO MORE trying to shove medicine down their throat and them spitting it out! Just a drop will do ya on the bottom of the feet and send them to bed!
Having 7 children, we inevitably get bouts of nighttime coughing. One or 2 drops of RC rubbed on the chest and back sends everyone back to a quiet sleep.

A friend of mine called saying her children (ages 3.5 and 5) were miserable with a croupy cough, and asked if I could suggest some oils to help. I mixed the following together for her:

8 drops ravensara

3 drops melaleuca alternifolia

3 drops lavender

2 drops lemon

48 drops V-6 mixing oil

I suggested she rub a couple of drops on her kids’ chests, backs and soles of feet. She called back later that day to report that within 15 minutes of putting the oils on, both children stopped coughing!

A couple of years ago when my children were in 1st and 4th grades in their very small school of 125 students in northern Vermont, the school had to postpone their Christmas concert until after Christmas because over 40% of the school (children and employees, alike), were home sick for over a week with a deeply nasty flu!

My children did not get sick, and did not miss any days of school that winter. I had been diffusing Thieves and Purification into our house, and applying minute amounts of Thieves neat on the soles of their feet (one of the quickest and most effect ways to disperse essential oils into the body) and in a small amount of veg carrier oil to the base of their spines (where viruses like to hang out) each night and morning.

But lately he’s been using Abundance, and has written more contracts this month than ever. He says the people linger and don’t want to leave his office. Of course he applies the Abundance to his face, hands, and today told me he gently rubbed it on the chairs the clients sit in.

He came home and told me to order him a gallon of Abundance!

He also has a small decorative water fountain on a table in his office, and enjoys adding a few drops of oil to it. I have a diffuser on order for him.
